UAAP: Pumaren awaits formal notification from DLSU

By Brian Yalung

On Tuesday night, Dec. 27, word broke out that De La Salle University will not be renewing the contract of veteran basketball coach Derrick Pumaren.

Pumaren is in the final year of a three-year deal he agreed to with the DLSU Green Archers in January 2020.

In a phone interview with PTV Sports on Wednesday (Dec. 28) afternoon, the veteran mentor said that he has yet to be officially informed by DLSU concerning his status.

Pumaren added that he is hoping DLSU management would at least have the decency to formally tell him of their decision not to renew his contract, stressing that informing the media before him does not exemplify a true La Sallian gentleman.

After an impressive run in UAAP Season 84 where the Green Archers placed third, expectations were raised in UAAP Season 85.

However, DLSU was not spared from playing with an incomplete roster with several players missing games due to injuries among others.

The Green Archers ended up missing the bus to the UAAP Season 85 Final Four after bowing to the Adamson Soaring Falcons, 80-76, last December 4.

Regardless, Pumaren plans to take a break from basketball and see what the future holds.
